For smaller projects, use Composer Express standalone to create accounts, define a system, and connect devices. For more advanced projects, use it as a companion to the full Control4 Composer Pro programming experience. Key Features: -Search for, view and add new customer accounts to your dealer account. My friends sent me some control4 equipment. Light switchs, multi button switches, AVM-MC1-B controller and a AVM-16S1-B AV Switch. I was able to find out it is on 1.3.2, the problem is the composer software I was given is Composer Pro 1.7.2. The controller will not update itself to 1.7.2, it was updated to.
I considered control4 because I need RS232 interface to control my Anthem D2 but I will avoid it for this very reason. Seems like none of these manufacturer's want to give you the ability to program their hardware. It would be nice to have all the other features of the Control4 but I can live without them. I'm probably going to just get a Universal MX-450 or maybe an 810 and a generic IR-RS232 interface.
I had really liked the concept of the Control4 but I can do most of what I need without it. I believe the MX series remotes can control my lights and other equipment.
Most of them are also limited in what the end user can program but in my case the only custom programming I needed was for the RS232. The IR-RS232 interface I'm going to use is just a small board that sells for only $79 so it will also save a lot over the Control4.

With it, no one can tell me I can't program it! Originally Posted by Condar I'm guessing the fact that I have a copy of control4 composer 1.7.1 makes me a 'special'person? I'm not sure if the MX series can do everything Control4 does but they do have the MSC-400 which gives you the RS232 and probably some additional features. You might want to look at that option but I think it has the same problem in that they want you to have a professional installer do the programming. If the software you have is the professional version then you got lucky.
However, how will you be able to keep it upgraded to the latest version? I had also wondered if it were possible to get a copy. Spyshelter Firewall Serial Season. I'm surprised they don't include some sort of dongle key so just having the software alone wouldn't help you any.
